Schedule, version 0.1

Day 1, fly into Billings Logan Int'l Airport in Billings, MT, pick up full-size rental car at National Car Rental for $400/week (to be returned in Jackson, WY).  Drive 1 hr 14 min to Lupine Lodge in Red Lodge, MT to sleep in a cheap motel.

Day 2, awake in Red Lodge, MT, drive the Bear Tooth Highway, stopping at interesting points, then enter Yellowstone and cross it in it's entirety from East to West ending at 8 bedroom cabin in West Yellowstone.   4 hr 25 min of driving.  mapquest directions

Day 3, awake in West Yellowstone, drive to Mammoth Hot Springs (1hr 35 min).  Pick up a Junior Ranger Program booklet at the Albright Visiotr Center.

Do "Tales of the Tavertine" ranger led walk (20 min) at the Palette Spring board walk at 11am.  Lunch at sheepeater cliffs picnic area.  Sheepeater:

Then hike to swimming in the geothermal Firehole Canyon.  Or maybe not since Sept is the time of year that it starts snowing.  After, drive 1 hour back to cabin in West Yellowstone.

Day 3: Drive 1hr 18 min to explore the Yellowstone canyon area of the park.  Decide if we want to walk the billion stairs to look for the rainbow.  

end day 3 back at West Yellowstone cabin.

Day 4, drive 1 hour to Old Faithful area.  Explore geysers and paint pots.  Hike to vista point for Grand Prismatic Pool.  copyrighted image of grand prismatic pool

 After, drive 2 hour 40 min to Jackson, WY 5 brm cabin. snow king chalet in Jackson Hole

Day 5, do some scenic driving stopping at vistas and hikes (1 hour drive to park): link to milkyway picture from Signal Mountain Summit  

return to Jackson cabin.

Day 6, hike Cascade Canyon in Grand Teton National Park 

after hiking, return to Jackson cabin.  

Day 7, fly home.
